Description

For decades, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in East Moline has been a steady pillar of support for the community. The church was recently gifted a house and needs a light refresh to put it to good use. Your team will help get the home guest-ready with simple, high-impact tasks—perfect for volunteers of all experience levels.

What You’ll Do

  • Remove worn green outdoor carpet on the front porch (pending safety check by site lead)

  • Trim bushes, edge the lawn, and tidy landscaping

  • Touch up exterior trim and shutters; light interior paint touch-ups

  • General litter/debris pickup at the house and church grounds

  • (If time allows) Spot-clean or shampoo carpets

What’s Provided
Basic tools, paint and supplies, trash bags, and guidance from the site lead. PPE available.

What to Bring
Closed-toe shoes, work clothes, refillable water bottle, and any favorite yard tools or paint brushes (optional).

Requirements & Notes
Light to moderate physical activity (bending, lifting up to ~25 lbs). Power tools used only under site-lead direction. Porch carpet removal will proceed only if steps are confirmed stable.

A:  • Personal Protective Equipment Required • Proper Ventilation • Work Area Preparation • Slip Hazards (Carpet Cleaning) PPE Recommended • Mask Respirators • Gloves • Safety Glasses John Deere safety notes: Safety Glasses, gloves, closed toed shoes. No chain saws, no wood chippers, no operation of heavy equipment. No scrapping or sanding old paint, unable to validate that the old paint does not contain lead. Cannot scrape or sand old paint. Cannot validate that the old paint does not contain lead. If outdoor activity, sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.

A:  A deacon will greet the volunteer upon arrival. They will enter on the west side of the building and be taken in for introductions and to explain their role in the project.
