What We Do
Black Hawk State Historic Site is a 208 acre park managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that showcases the fascinating cultural history and diverse natural resources of the Quad Cities. We have over 7 miles of recreational hiking trails along the Rock River and through the nature preserve. Visitors discover the history of Black Hawk and the Sauk and Meskwaki people by visiting the John Hauberg Indian Museum. The park staff, with assistance of our foundation, host free programs and bus trips to over 2,000 students each year. Community based park available for use from sunrise to sunset. Multiple shelters and campfire areas provided free of charge. We are dedicated to preserving, improving, and enhancing the natural, ecological, historical, and archaeological features of Black Hawk State Historic Site.
