Welcome to Wilson Elementary! Our outstanding and caring staff would like to recognize all of the parents families and volunteers who have dedicated their time and efforts to make Wilson a great place to learn and grow. We are proud of our accomplishments throughout the year both academically and behaviorally. Students will continue to be supported through the efforts of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) as we implement Year 5 of this system during the 2016-17 school year. We know our students will continue to display respectful behavior to peers and staff through this collaborative effort. Our staff will be trained in the Boys Town Model at the beginning of the school year to support appropriate social skills. Wilson?s staff is dedicated through their time and talents not only in the classroom but with outside events that bring together school and community. Recent Accomplishments ? Teaching staff continued to implement the Data Team Process by meeting weekly with grade levels and critical friends for success with our instructional strategies. This is crucial as we continue to embrace the Iowa Core Curriculum. ? We also focused on RTI (Response to Intervention) to support the learning needs of our students. We have continued this team to address behavior and academic concerns. ? Through Title I Wilson continues to have great volunteerism along with active participation at our family events throughout the year. ? Many students participated in band and orchestra building a strong foundation for the music programs at Smart and Williams Intermediates and West High School. ? Visiting artists and Biz Town added to students? real life experiences throughout the year. The Davenport Schools Foundation?s Great Minds program helped with these efforts. ? Extracurricular activities such as STEAM Art Club Intramurals Chorus Girl Scouts Boy Scouts Student Council and Safety Patrol provided opportunities for student learning beyond the school day. ? We are continuing our Olweus Anti-Bullying initiative as we strive to keep students safe and ready to learn! ? Chorus students performed winter and spring concerts for the school parents and friends. ? Family involvement along with being supported by PTA remained strong this year. Families were treated to events such as Valentine?s Day Dance Bingo Night Fun Night Unpack Your Backpack Night and Movie Night. ? Our Watch DOGS program continues at Wilson. This has been such a beneficial program for staff families dads and especially the students. Thank you to our top dog Jason Slyter and to Tonya Sievertsen for their continued dedication to this program. ? We continue to expand our use of technology in classrooms. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year we will be 1:1 with all of our students. Students participating in the GAP program had the opportunity to take a tablet home to continue further practice in the area of reading. ? Reading Mastery an alternate core curriculum has continued to demonstrate success with our students. We will be in the fourth year of implementation this year. Envisions math curriculum was successfully implemented this past school year. ? We continue to offer after school care through our Stepping Stones Program helping meet the needs of our families.
