Neil Armstrong Elementary

We are the lowest income elementary in Bettendorf. We serve a wide range of students and provide several services that others schools don't need to offer such as: free breakfast and lunch for students partner with Hy-Vee to provide a fresh fruit or vegetable everyday for a healthy snack provide 90 minutes of instructional support to 110 students prior to school starting each day and 130 minutes after school each day. We strive to make an impact in the lives of our students and that is beginning to show with an improvement in test scores. I have just completed my 1st year as principal at Neil Armstrong but the building we are in has been standing for 10 years. Before that Armstrong was located in a different area of Bettendorf. Armstrong has been known to serve the lowest income families in the district as we are close to 70% free and reduced.

GOAL 1 - Student Achievement BCSD will accelerate achievement for all students and minimize disparities among all groups of students by delivering research-based best practice instructional strategies and programs consistently throughout the district. GOAL 2 - Staff Development BCSD will attract develop and retain highly competent dedicated and caring staff so that we can be responsive to the diverse needs of our learners and high expectations from our community. GOAL 3 - Learning Environments BCSD will upgrade maintain and expand facilities; enhance culture and climate to support the district mission; and continue to provide a safe accessible and welcoming environment for students staff parents and the community. GOAL 4 - District-Wide Alignment & Engagement BCSD will share a common vision for its future and work to align the board administration educators district staff students and community with the shared vision. BCSD will establish effective two-way communication within the district as well as with parents and the community in order to foster a trusting and supportive partnership for student success. GOAL 5 - Resources BCSD will develop a seamless continuation of existing funding options and aggressively pursue new funding mechanisms in order to provide our students and staff with an innovative world-class educational experience.
