Who We Are
The Martin Luther King Jr Community Center has been an anchor in Rock Island's West side since it was established in 1975. Our mission is to inspire greatness in the Quad Cities through community-building, education and service. Our vision is a thriving, beloved community rooted in justice, equity and respect for one another.
What We Do
The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center
- provides high-quality After-school, Inter-session and Summer Day Camp programs for children at no cost to families
- leads Substance Abuse and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention programs in the Rock Island/Milan School District
- engages families in Rock Island County with counseling, case management and other services to strengthen family relationships
- organizes annual events including a Memorial Service and Awards in honor of Dr Martin Luther King Jr; a Family Fun Day and parade each fall; Thanksgiving dinner the weekend before Thanksgiving; and a Christmas party for children
- is a VITA site for free tax preparation for qualified individuals and families
- houses several volunteer-led clubs and activities, including Metro Youth Team; the ACTIVE Club for senior citizens; and a boxing club
