Gateway Redevelopment Group
Our organization was founded to address the issue of derelict properties in the Gold Coast and Hamburg Historic District of Davenport. We realized that addressing the very specific problems of restoring buildings was a mission that was very difficult for our neighborhood association to include within its scope of activities. Our membership is open to all; our support comes from across the Quad Cities. Gateway Redevelopment Group was founded in 2004 after a reorganization and realignment of our neighborhood association. Our first project was restoration of the Jipp Home and Grocery at 732 Gaines Street in Davenport an 1868/1878 structure that had risen to #1 on the city's demolition list. Through a combination of donations local and state grants and contributions of professional services and volunteer hours the building was saved. Today it is the home of our Architectural Rescue Shop displaying and selling salvaged architectural items a caretaker apartment and the neighborhood History Resource Center. Our next project was 822 Gaines an 1876 home that had become #1 on the city's demolition list in 2005. It was restored through donations loans grants and the city's HAPPEN program. It has been sold as a single family home and its occupants moved in in August 2008.
Uniting community resources of volunteer service professional expertise and financial assets to save abandoned buildings in our neighborhood.
