Humility Homes & Services, Inc. is seeking a dedicated group to “Adopt the Property” at 1928 Pershing Street—a home that provides safe, stable housing for high-barrier individuals who might otherwise be unable to care for the property. Volunteers will help create a welcoming and beautiful space by mowing, weeding, trimming bushes, picking up garbage, sticks, and leaves, and painting the porch. This hands-on investment not only helps us keep the property safe and affordable for our participants without passing maintenance costs on to them, but it also uplifts the entire neighborhood. When we improve the homes where our residents live, the ripple effect is felt far beyond the current tenants—strengthening the community and fostering pride and connection throughout the area.

Volunteers for the 1928 Pershing Street project should bring a mix of practical skills and a community-focused mindset. Basic yard work abilities—such as mowing, weeding, raking, and trimming bushes—are essential, along with comfort using hand tools and small equipment like trimmers and paint brushes, with training provided as needed. Volunteers should be able to lift and carry light debris, work well as a team, and follow all safety guidelines, including wearing gloves and closed-toe shoes. A willingness to communicate respectfully with residents and neighbors is equally important, as this project supports individuals with high barriers to housing. Most importantly, volunteers should share our commitment to making the property not only safe and affordable but also a welcoming, beautiful home for those we serve.
Q: Will the volunteers need PPE for this project to ensure safety?
A:
Yes
