Volunteer: Youth tutor/mentor

Project Renewal relies heavily on community volunteers to successfully carry out our mission. Individuals who have a sincere desire in helping improve the lives of children in our community can do so through our youth program and agency activities. We need your support!

Volunteers may assist on an individual basis, with another person, as a family or group. Volunteers are utilized for ongoing activities, special projects, as well as for onetime events. Volunteers can directly interact with our youth or provide support to our agency. Both are needed! Hours to serve can be determined according to your schedule, the nature of the activity, on an as needed basis or scheduled within youth program

Afterschool program hours: Monday - Friday, 2:45 – 5:30 p.m.

Summer program hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., additional field trip hours scheduled on a weekly basis.

Times can vary for volunteers to fit their schedule: once a week or however often is desired by volunteer, how long can be decided by volunteer also - whether it is for an hour or more within the time frame of our program hours or for a specific event. Feel free to call to discuss, 563-324-0800

Basic Function and Responsibility

To assist in supervising educational, recreational, and social activities designed to teach school-age children needed life skills such as self-esteem, time management, non-violent conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, and appropriate social behavior.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Assist children with homework and tutoring projects. Develop supportive mentoring relationships with the children participating in the program. Serve as a positive role model for the children. Assist in preparing and supervising educational and recreational activities for children. Assist in clean up and organization of program supplies and facility.

Volunteer examples: helping youth with homework, tutoring math, reading, writing, assist with craft projects, baking, computers, social interaction with youth, playing games, etc. Or other organization items, such as fundraising, marketing, garden and yard work, maintenance or cleaning.

Special Events: Project Renewal Fit-Fest, neighborhood parties –Halloween, Christmas Caroling, Easter Egg Hunt.
