Plant Sale Volunteer Sponsor: International Harvester Mississippi Valley Credit Union (IHMVCU)
We appreciate your interest in volunteering for the Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Plant Sale. The Plant Sale is a great community service project or company team activity as well as an avenue to meet new people, spend time with your Little, and learn or share your knowledge about flowers.
Gardening expertise or a green thumb is not required. During the weekend retail hours, we will have the pleasure of working with the Scott County Master Gardeners onsite to help answer questions, provide good gardening tips, and assist customers with their selections.
Please find the available shift dates and times listed below with how many volunteers are needed per shift. We do strive to maintain a balance between too few and too many volunteers so people stay busy and enjoy their experience with us.
For quick reference, here is a broad overview of what's involved:
Site Preparation (Tuesday, May 7, 2024):

*Involves unloading racks of flowers and baskets then sorting them by color and variety.
Delivery and Pick Up Orders (Wednesday, May 8, 2024 - Thursday, May 9, 2024)

Volunteers will pull flowers to fill hundreds of pre-orders.

Orders will be loaded for delivery or set aside for pick up.

Drivers needed to deliver flowers to neighborhoods in a 30 mile radius. SUVs, trucks, larger cars with cargo space are recommended.
Retail Sales (Friday, May 10, 2024 - Monday, May 13, 2024):

Greet and assist customers with their purchase.

Carry and help load flowers into vehicles.

Assist with caring for flowers and the upkeep of the site.
Miscellaneous:
- Bending and carrying flats of flowers and hanging baskets are involved.
- Comfortable footwear is recommended for all shifts - volunteers will be on their feet for long periods of time.
- All operations will run rain or shine.
- All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time.
- If you need to arrive a few minutes late or leave your shift early, please include that in your comments or send advance notice to arichie@bbbs-mv.org.

On Monday, April 29, 2024 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm CST there will be an information session for the 2024 BBBS Plant Sale. During this meeting, the various jobs, responsibilities, and duties will be explained by BBBS Staff. Please come with any questions that you have regarding this event. If you are unable to attend this event, a recording will be made available for later viewing.
