Who We Are

The Keep Rock Island Beautiful 'Trash Sister' program helps provide educational opportunities by presentations and community outreach by one or all of the sisters:Redusa Reusa and Recycla. We provide supplies for neighborhood cleanups coordinate and participate in community events and present awards for outstanding beautification efforts by businesses schools organizations or individuals. We administer the Adopt-a-Highway program where we currently have 33 organizations or individuals cleaning various streets within the City of Rock Island. In 2010 we began the Adopt-An-Event program. We will loan out recycling bins to an organization or individual who is having an event and would like to recycle plastic bottles or aluminum cans. Bins must be reserved in advance. Our organization began in 1985 under the name 'Rock Island Clean and Beautiful'. In January of 2007 we changed our name to Keep Rock Island Beautiful to stay within the recommendations of Keep America Beautiful. We are one of over 600 affiliates. Keep Rock Island Beautiful helps organize the Annual Rock Island Downtown Cleanup Bike Path Cleanup Quad Cities Earth Week Fair and Xstream Cleanup. We also participate in the Rock Island Labor Day Parade Bald Eagle Days Martin Luther King Fun Days City of Rock Island Open House and Recycling Fair Hauberg Civic Center Christmas Open House Fright Night in the District Quad City Arts Festival of Trees and the United Way Day of Caring. We collaborate with the City of Rock Island Public Works Department Park and Recreation Departments and Problem Properties Task Force. We also collaborate with The District Rock Island County Area Project Community Caring Conference DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) Phi Theta Kappa at Blackhawk College several organizations within Augustana College Rock Island High School Environmental Club and the Junior High Drop-In Center. We are sponsored by the City of Rock Island Millenium Waste and Jumers Casino Rock Island. We receive grants from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and from local grants: The Moline Foundation Rock Island Community Foundation Living Lands and Waters Mid American Energy Modern Woodman and the Rock Island Evening Lions Club. We also receive donations and in-kind donations from various other organizations businesses or individuals including the Rock Island HyVee.
